A big part of our identity at Maywood EFC is wrapped up in our commitment to introduce people all over the globe to Jesus. Since the late 70s, a big part of our budget has been set aside to do just that.
“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you’” (Matthew 28:18-20).
We delight in being part of all aspects of Jesus’ great commission.
Missions is changing as, more and more often, we encounter a global society. As the West becomes increasingly post-Christian, this “going” Jesus talks about can take many forms. It can mean learning the culture and language of those living right around us. It may mean sending out missionaries to places where there is no other possible way people there could learn about Jesus. It requires flexibility and change of methods, as the world and political climates are in constant flux.
Our Missions focus is increasingly centered on evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and training of national workers and pastors. We support seminary educators, missionaries who are church planters or who oversee church planters, and various local ministries. The goal is helping national leaders to develop self-sustaining, healthy churches where new believers can be taught what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.
We believe that getting to know our missionaries helps us better support them in all ways, especially in prayer. Their lives inspire us with their dedication, innovative methods and risk-taking faith. That is why we have a “Lunch and Learn”, a periodic opportunity to hear an in-person report from one of our missionaries. These meetings will be casual and open to anyone who wants to attend following our second service.
Short-Term Missions Trips
Attenders of Maywood often go on short-term missions trips here in America and abroad. Short-term mission trips bless and transform the lives of all those involved by allowing them to see how God is at work. The Missions Committee specifically and strategically supports both adult and youth missions trips with financial help. Many of these short-term trips focus on helping and encouraging our missionaries that we support in Romania (with Camp Horizon) and Lynch, Kentucky (with Heritage Ministries), as well as other places around the world.
Get to know all of the missionaries our church supports and how you can pray for them. You can also download our Missionary Prayer Guide here as a reminder for how to pray for each one.
(Some missionaries serve in areas hostile to the Gospel and have had their names abbreviated or changed to protect them.)
