Maywood Evangelical Free Church leaders recognize that God bestows unique gifts upon individuals (1 Corinthians 12:1-31) and that individual MEFC members differ in talents and abilities as a result of each one’s temperament, education and experience. Therefore, in order to follow the biblical model for church leadership and organization, the Elders’ Council and the Board of Deacons bear the responsibility for setting direction, identifying and adopting goals and priorities, and overseeing the day-to-day work of MEFC. These men seek to lead the church well, in accordance with biblical instruction, at the leading of the Holy Spirit and under the headship of Jesus Christ. To contact any of these groups call the church office.
The Elders’ Council consists of not more than nine (9) voting members, including the Senior Pastor, the Executive Pastor and up to seven (7) male members affirmed by the MEFC membership at the Annual Meeting. They are men who exhibit maturity in their faith and walk with God and who are able to lead the church well in building God’s kingdom.
Members of the Elders’ Council are accountable to the congregation for the spiritual oversight of the affairs of the church, its staff, and programs. It is a priority for the Council to maintain a close relationship with all Pastoral and Ministry Staff as well as to monitor their activities, effectiveness, workload, and overall spiritual vitality.

The Board of Deacons consists of not more than twelve (12) members elected from the MEFC membership at the Annual Meeting as well as a representative of the Pastoral Staff selected by the Elders’ Council. They are men who exhibit a desire to please God in their daily activities, who are growing in their knowledge of His word and His ways, and who have a heart for serving God’s people.
Members of the Board of Deacons are accountable to the Elders’ Council and ultimately to the congregation for the oversight of the finances and physical properties of the church campus. They also review applications and recommend individuals for church membership. The Board is in charge of determining the annual church budget and presenting its recommendations to the church body. Members also assist the pastors with Communion service and care activities such as hospital visitation and home visits.
