Discipleship sermon - Dec. 2017

Suggestions:

Reach out to a person for the prupose of evangelism at a place you frequent on a regular basis.  If you go to Starbucks - someone you may see there who helps you.

Fast from something in your life.  It doesn't have to be just food.  An example may be an entertainment or social media fast.

Pray about being part of a short-term missions trip - if God is leading-Go.

Get invloved in outreach to your community through your local church.

Get out of your comfort zone.  Is there something God may want you to do to stretch you.

Go on a retreat to spend concentrated time with God.

Take a spiritual gift inventory and serve God.

Get involved in a life group: If you would like to be in a Life Group contact Pastor Dave  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

True leadership demands service, sacrifice, and selflessness. By those standards, Andy Patten was truly a leader. Born Andrew Grant Patten on June 1, 1986, in Rockford, Illinois, Andy was the second child and only son of Alan G. Patten and Gayle Patten- Naschansky. Andy attended Maywood Evangelical Free church his entire life. A May 2004 graduate of Byron (Illinois) High School, Andy joined the Marines in August of 2004. Lance Corporal Andrew Grant Patten heroically gave his life on the battlefield while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Fallujah, Iraq, on December 1, 2005.

Nicknamed “The Rev.” by his Marine squadron, Andy was not afraid to stand up for what he believed, even if it meant being criticized by members of his squadron. Humble and quiet, Andy looked to God’s Word for his daily strength and sought to lighten the load of others by making them laugh. A true leader, Andy took time to study people, learning how to best approach them. He could relate to anyone. He portrayed the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. He loved his God and his country and served both well.

Andy feared the Lord, but he did not fear death. He believed that what he was doing in Iraq was worth any sacrifice. He believed it was his duty and calling to give his all for Jesus Christ, his family, his friends, and his country. Andy understood that he was chosen by God to bear fruit that would last. This he did, and this he will continue to do, through the students of Maywood Evangelical Free Church.

The Purpose of the AGP Golf Outing
As a church, we strive every day to reach further with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are becoming a people, to reach people for Christ! In our student ministries, it is no different. Our goal as a student ministry is to reach out to students both within and outside the church, and this golf outing helps us do that!

Because of this golf outing, we’ve been able to launch and sustain an intramural basketball outreach to the boys at Jefferson High School, through which over 150 different students have heard the Gospel! We are blessed by the partnership we share with Jefferson, and look forward to many to good years of ministry and seeing God at work.

Thank you so much for your generosity! The proceeds of this event in their entirety will go toward shaping and developing the next generation through means of education, retreats, mentoring, conferences, local and global outreach, service opportunities, and helping with youth room needs.
